~UC Time line~ U.C. 0079: The Principality of Zeon, a nation of space colonists, launches a war of independence against the Earth Federation. Half the human race is killed in the ensuing conflict, which is later referred to as the One Year War. The conflict also sees the emergence of "Newtypes," a new breed of human with amazing powers of perception and telepathy. Char Aznable and Amuro Ray meet as adversaries during the last months of this war and, through their relationships with a girl named Lalah Sune, each realizes his own identity as a Newtype. [Mobile Suit Gundam] U.C. 0080: The Earth Federation and the restored Republic of Zeon sign a peace treaty, concluding the One Year War. However, many of the Principality's soldiers vow to continue fighting. Some follow Aiguille Delaz to a shoal zone in Earth orbit, while others - among them Char Aznable - flee to the asteroid base Axis, in the outer reaches of the solar system. U.C. 0081: Char and his fellow Zeon renegades reach the asteroid belt. Dozle Zabi's widow dies at Axis, leaving her infant daughter - Mineva Lao Zabi, heir to the Principality of Zeon - in the care of Axis's commanders. U.C. 0082: The Federation secretly establishes Newtype research agencies. Continuing the work of the Principality's Flanagan Institute, these Newtype Labs eventually develop techniques to turn ordinary humans into enhanced "cyber-Newtypes." U.C. 0083: The Delaz Fleet carries out Operation Stardust, a major offensive meant to inspire continued resistance against the Earth Federation. In the wake of this operation, the Federation organizes an elite taskforce called the Titans, whose mission is to hunt down Zeon renegades and suppress rebellious space colonists. [Mobile Suit Gundam 0083] U.C. 0084: The details of Operation Stardust are erased from official records. As the Earth Federation Forces reorganize, Char Aznable returns from Axis and infiltrates the Federation military, assuming the alias "Quattro Bageena." U.C. 0085: The Titans use poison gas to suppress a demonstration at a Side 1 space colony, killing all three million of its inhabitants. In response, dissident Federation Forces officers organize a resistance group called the AEUG. Among the AEUG's founding members is the so-called Quattro Bageena. U.C. 0086: The asteroid Axis, now fitted with powerful pulse thrusters, begins its journey back to the Earth sphere. Meanwhile, the AEUG - with the help of the lunar manufacturing corporation Anaheim Electronics - prepares for armed struggle against the tyranny of the Titans. U.C. 0087: The AEUG attacks the Titans' headquarters, the space colony Gryps. As this "Gryps conflict" escalates into a full-fledged civil war, many of the White Base crew return to the battlefield as resistance fighters, and Bright Noa and Amuro Ray find themselves joining forces with their former adversary Char. Initially reluctant to take charge of the AEUG, Char at last discards his Quattro disguise and becomes the group's political leader. [Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam] U.C. 0088: The AEUG, Titans, and Axis forces meet in a massive fleet battle, during which the Titans are defeated and Char disappears. Axis leader Haman Karn declares the establishment of Neo Zeon, whose goal is to revive the Principality under the leadership of the figurehead Mineva Zabi. [Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ] U.C. 0089: A Neo Zeon officer rebels against Haman's leadership. The Neo Zeon forces are consumed by internal conflict, leaving the Earth Federation and its AEUG allies to declare victory by default. [Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ] U.C. 0090: The Earth Federation Space Force organizes an auxiliary force called Londo Bell, whose mission is to patrol the space colonies and watch for signs of rebellion. Many former AEUG members, including Bright Noa and Amuro Ray, join the ranks of the Londo Bell. U.C. 0091: Anaheim Electronics develops the prototype mobile suit Re-GZ, a simplified version of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam used during the Gryps Conflict. However, the Re-GZ is still deemed too expensive for mass production. U.C. 0092: Char Aznable reappears as the leader of a second Neo Zeon movement, which occupies the refugee colony of Sweetwater. The Earth Federation responds by reinforcing its Londo Bell taskforce. U.C. 0093: Char declares war against the Earth Federation. The Neo Zeon fleet sets out from Sweetwater and captures the asteroid 5th Luna... [Char's Counterattack]
